Odin Update and lease trial lesson (L_HuntersAndJumpers)

  Odin update

So in my last post, I talked about the Portofino event and how Odin went lame, so I wanted to follow up on how he's doing. On Sunday night, when we got back to the barn, I put poultice on all 4 of his legs because we aren't 100% sure which one he hurt. There is no sign of him cutting himself or anything like that, so we don't know what's wrong. He's also is getting time off from work.

  Monday

Today I have a lesson, and I know I'm not on Odin because he's getting time off, but we get to the barn 30 minutes early, so I pull Odin out just to groom and hang out with him. I also texted J to see if she wanted me to do anything for him, but I didn't get a response until while I was riding. After I ride, I pull Odin out to do his legs, and J said to just cold hose and poultice his legs.

 Tuesday

I did the same thing as yesterday, and just cold hosed and poulticed.

 Lease trial lesson

Today I rode Frodo, and I really liked him. I've only seen him being ridden once, and that was a few strides before he refused a jump, and his owner fell off, and ended up hurting her leg and going to the ER. I'm gonna skip the boring part of the lunging, so all you have to know is I lunged him before I got on. I got on and just walked around and let him get used to his surroundings. We first started trotting on a circle, and once I got comfortable, I went around the arena doing different things to keep his brain active. Then we did a line of ground poles first towards the barn and then away from the barn. He did the poles great going away from the barn, but picked up speed going towards the barn. We added a few circles before going over the poles, and the first circle in the corner, going towards the barn, he went sideways and stopped, and when I asked him to move forward, he tried to rear. It wasn't crazy, but his front feet were levitating for a second. We kept doing that circle, and after we got through the one corner where he tried to rear, he would pick up speed and buck. We found a good spot to end and then headed back to the barn. I think the reason he tried to rear was that he wanted to go back to the barn and be done, so he tried to see if I would let him.
